The concept of scientific management was given to improve the productivity, efficiency and effectiveness in the organization through the application of the proposed scientific principles and techniques. The term Scientific Management is used in the special sense of an approach to management according to which the management undertakes the responsibility for deciding the proper standards and methods of work and providing for close supervision of workers. In a fundamental sense, scientific management is an attitude and a philosophy which discards the traditional hit-and-miss and rule-of-thumb method of managing work and workers; it means the acceptance and application of the method of scientific investigation for the solution of the problems of industrial management. Frederick Taylor published the principles of scientific management in the year 1909 in which he proposed optimization and simplification of jobs which would lead to an increase in productivity.
